CityTime Cities Import..

CityTime versions 2.6 and beyond allow for the importing of cities via the Memo Pad program.

The process is as simple as copying and pasting the data from one of the import files listed below into your Palm Desktop program, hotsyncing and then using CityTime to import the new cities into it's database.

See the links below to go to the relevant sections of this page.

List of Import Files

Note: The import cities option is a powerful new fearture in CityTime which, if used in excess can make the program cumbersome and more difficult to use. Please think carefully before importing the entire list of cities as it will be harder to mange the larger city lists and difficult to find the commonly used cities which you actually want to use.

We recommend installing only specific extra cities in regions that you commonly refer to.

Instructions for using the files

1. Click on one of the Import Files below. You should see the data appear in your browser window. (If not, you will be prompted to save the file - save the file anywhere on your computer and then use a word processor to view it.)

2. Highlight the entire file and then use the copy command to copy it.

Note: Make sure you copy the entire file including the heading. CityTime detects valid import files based on this.

3. Open the Palm Desktop application and create a new note / Memo Pad entry. Paste the data into the body part of the note.

Note: It is important to leave the title of the note blank in the dektop program as this will change the first line of the memo when viewed on the device. CityTime will only display files for import which have "CT City Data" or "City Data" at the beginning of their first line.

4. Repeat this process to copy as many files as required.

5. Hotsync the device. You should be able to see the import files in the Memo Pad program.

6. Open CityTime on the device, choose Edit Cities from the Options menu and then tap on the Import button. A list of valid import files should appear.

7. Select a file and then tap on the Import button to import the new cities.

Usage tips...

- It's not normally a good idea to import every city available into the program (we've tried it!). Too many cities makes finding the cities that you're after difficult and can slow down the displaying of the nearest city on the mainscreen msp.

- It's generally a good idea to turn on the "Confirm Each City" option in the import screen. If you end up with too many cities, either delete the extras individually or choose Reset All from Select City To Edit screen and import just the ones that are required.

- Using the Palms search function is a simple way to see if a city exists within the import files. These import files include the region and country for each city.

Why are some of the regions split into two or three sections? The Memo Pad entries on a Palm device have a limit of 4k for each entry. Files that exceed the 4k limit have been split into sections so that they will transfer fully into the Memo Pad application.
